MANUFACTURING: WOOD AND PLASTIC PROCESSES – No. 8018
.5 Credit Elective – Grades 9-12
Length: First Semester
Prerequisite: Introduction to Engineering Design. Can be taken concurrently.
This course is designed to introduce students to wood and plastic processes which are used to produce items we use each day. Through a variety of instructional techniques such as hands-on activities and problem solving activities, students will be introduced to the safe use of various hand tools, power tools and related equipment. Care and maintenance of the tools and equipment will also be addressed. Projects will be produced using a variety of processing techniques used in the wood and plastic industries. Students will have the opportunity to use technology as part of this processing. Through a variety of related activities such as mass production, reading and interpreting technical information from working drawings, studying the science of wood and plastic, and students will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge gained in other parts of the school curriculum.
Students need to furnish their own safety glasses and pay for materials which are used for their own projects.
